HAWKS WIN BUT SOCKEYES CLOSER TO CLINCHING

Anthony Brito's double overtime blast lifted the Delta Ice Hawks to a 3-2 victory over the Richmond Sockeyes and kept their hopes alive in the race for first place in the Shaw Conference. It was the Sockeyes third consecutive overtime loss, but the point they received tonight means they can clinch first place with a victory over Ridge Meadows on Thursday night. Delta came out flying and scored twice in the first eleven minutes. They continued to lead the game 2-0 until midway through the third period, when the Sockeyes suddenly broke through to force OT. It was a fast and competitive game that was entertaining to watch from start to finish. Tonight was their final meeting of the regular season and the best game of the six meetings between the two clubs. Richmond wins the season series with a record of 3-2-1 compared to the Ice Hawks 3-3-0. These teams are remarkably even and their fans are surely hoping that a seven game playoff series materializes in the second round of the playoffs.
